Design & Technology
AHMAT aims to ensure that our high quality DT curriculum provides excellent opportunities for children to improve analysis, problem solving, practical capability and evaluation skills. We aim to link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, computing and art to produce high quality cross curricular outcomes. The children are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers.
Class teachers plan purposeful and dynamic lessons which are monitored and carefully planned to support progression throughout the school. We strive to also offer regular trips and visiting experts to enhance the learning experience.
The curriculum for design and technology ensures that our pupils develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently participating successfully in an increasingly technological world. We support children in building and applying a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users. The children will then critique, evaluate and test both their ideas and the products and work of others. Wherever possible we ensure that our designs are for a real purpose, for example as props in our school productions.
The skills children acquire are applied to their cross-curricular topics and embedded in Continuous provision, allowing children to use their DT skills to reflect on and explore topics in greater depth. Pupil are encouraged to discuss their learning; including their thoughts, ideas, processing and evaluations of work.
Children learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.
