       Welcome to Year 5!

    Class Teacher: Ms Marskell

    Teaching Assistant: Mr Morgan

Our value for this term is: Generosity

    Our learning this week:

    English:

In English, students analysed a diary-entry WAGOLL before spending some time thinking about significant memories. After choosing their favourite memory, they explored the thoughts and feelings of those involved. They then used these ideas to plan their own diary entry, considering how to communicate the experience clearly and thoughtfully.

    Maths:

In maths, we are still working on addition and subtraction. We have looked at mental strategies for subtraction, as well as column addition and column subtraction within 4-digit numbers. We have also explored how rounding can help us check our answers, giving us useful ways to work accurately and confidently.

    Science:

In science, we worked on recording our results from our previous lessons’ experiments on levers. We then analysed those results carefully, thinking about what they showed. This helped us explain clearly how a lever works and use evidence from our experiments to support our scientific ideas.

    DT:

This week in DT, students analysed various vegetable pastries and explored the fingertip rubbing technique to make pastry. They also learnt about three different methods of cutting safely: claw, fork secure and bridge. It has been a hands-on week, developing practical skills and helping students understand how to prepare food safely.

    RE:

In RE this week, we explored cosmology and evolution, considering different ideas about how the universe and life began. We discussed whether these ideas complemented or contradicted the account of creation in Genesis, sharing our thoughts respectfully and listening carefully to a range of viewpoints.

    PE Lessons:

Our PE lessons continue to take place on a Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning. This term we are focusing on football.
