Welcome to Year 5

   Welcome to Year 5!

Class Teacher: Ms Marskell

Teaching Assistant: Mr Morgan

Our value for this term is: Generosity

Our learning this week:

English:

In English we published our diary entries and worked on relative clauses and parenthesis. The children showed care when developing their writing and confidence when applying new grammatical skills. We are continuing to strengthen our sentence construction, using these techniques to make our writing clearer, more detailed and engaging.

Maths:

This week in maths, we completed a baseline test on multiplication and division. We then looked at multiples, factors and common multiples, building our understanding and developing confidence with mathematical vocabulary. Everyone worked hard and showed a positive attitude. We will continue practising these skills and explaining our reasoning clearly.

Science:

In science, we have completed our TAPS assessment, looking at the effect of water resistance. Students used their knowledge of surface area and water resistance to predict which shapes would sink slowest. They worked carefully, applied their scientific understanding and showed real determination when explaining their predictions.

Geography

In Geography, we looked at mountain ranges and explored the impacts of tourism on the Alpines. We also investigated what the Mediterranean climate is like in comparison to the Alpines. The class showed enthusiasm when discussing how physical environments and human activity are connected, building their geographical knowledge through thoughtful contributions.

RE:

In RE, we explored various statements about Science and Religion. We thoughtfully considered whether our viewpoints had changed and discussed whether the two are complementary or conflicting. We also examined what we believe Science and Religion explain. Everyone contributed carefully, listened respectfully and developed their understanding through discussion.

PE Lessons:

Our PE lessons continue to take place on a Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning. This term we are focusing on basketball.
