Ms Davies and Mrs Trillow
English:
This week, we have continued to focus on using our spelling words to write sentences that make sense, and we have begun to pay more attention to trying to ensure our writing is neatly presented, using the correct cursive formation.
SpAG
During our phonics, spelling and grammar (SpAG) sessions, we have been reviewing the digraphs 'th' and 'ch', and we have been writing different sentences using this week's spelling sound: 'gn'.
Maths
This week, we have been using our knowledge of number bonds and doubles to work out addition problems involving three different numbers. We did this by following a three-step process. For example: 4 + 6 + 8 =
Step 1 - 4 + 6 = 10
Step 2 - 10 + 8 = 18
Step 3 - 4 + 6 + 8 = 18
Science
This week, we have been learning some new words to describe wood that is used as a material for different purposes, eg. rigid, brittle, flexible. Some of us were surprised to discover that there are many different types of wood that can be used in different ways to make things.
PE
This week we combined our different skills to have a go at moving along whilst bouncing the ball and shadowing a partner. We practised passing the ball to our partner and moving around with the ball, then having a go at shooting the ball into the basketball net.
Geography
This week we began our geography unit by looking at the seven continents of the world, as well as the different oceans. We were fascinated to hear that the Pacific Ocean has an area where its depth is comparable to the height an aeroplane travels at!! We also had a look at some of the places we all come from using Google Earth, and we got very excited when we were able to zoom in and see White Waltham school!
RE
In RE this week, we have reviewed all our learning so far, thinking about the meaning behind many of the different parables we have heard, and considering what things we could do to ensure we are always trying to be mindful of others.
P4C
In our session this week, we looked at a photo of a bird near a small area, searching among discarded plastic and using some of it to build a nest. We discussed how it appeared to show the bird adapting to finding different things for its nest, and considered whether this kind of adaptation was a good thing or a bad thing.
It has been a very busy term full of many exciting things happening. It's been lovely getting to know the children, and also having an opportunity to meet so many of you during the parents' evenings.
Thank you for all of your support, and I wish you all a lovely half-term.
A few polite reminders:
Please ensure that all of your child's belongings (clothing, snack boxes, water bottles etc.) are labelled. Any items found unlabelled and unclaimed will be handed into lost property.
May I please ask that your child be provided with a couple of whiteboard markers to be kept in their pencil case. This is to be used when we do carpet work using small whiteboards.
We do provide plenty of fruit to be eaten daily as a snack, but if you choose to send an alternative snack for your child, please provide a healthy snack such as fruit, small chopped vegetables, or a yoghurt. Chocolate, biscuits, and crisps will not be permitted to be eaten in class, and a healthy school snack alternative will be offered instead.
During the parent-evening meetings, I mentioned a website that is useful for reviewing number bonds, doubles, addition, and other previously taught concepts. If you would like to check it out, this is the address:
