The spelling rule for this week is Week 2: -tial and -cial.
Our value for this term is generosity.
Last week, in literacy, the children were introduced to their first writing genre of the year: diary entries. We used a vehicle text, related to our overall topic, to help drive the learning. The children wrote predictions, setting descriptions and character poems, before analysing a WAGOLL. In maths, the children began the year by consolidating and progressing mathematical knowledge of place value. In topic, the children continued on from the immersion activities to learn more about World War II – this included what life was like at home, the consequences of the war and its legacy.
This week, in literacy, the children will continue to analyse our vehicle text, implementing key vocabulary, writing from the perspective of the main character and planning ideas to write their own diary entries from a character's perspective. In maths, we will continue with place value by consolidating how to round numbers; recognising and using negative numbers; and how to order and compare numbers of various place values. In topic, the children will learn about music during WWI and WWII and how is compared and contrasted according to the context of the time periods.
